Perfect for Portable Computing
Pros1. Weight: I can't believe how light it is compared with my 13 inch laptop.
2. Noise: It is fanless. Only thing you might hear is the hard drive's clicking sound if you are in a quiet room.
3. Cost: You can't find any 12 inch laptop with this price range.
4. Performance: I am writing this using my Mini 12 with Ubuntu Netbook Remix Xfce. It boots in 58 seconds. Page loading in the firefox is fast. OpenOffice runs fast, too.
5. Stamina: On average, mine lasts for 5~6 hours after full charge. That is more than enough to take notes during classes and browsing internet during lunch time.
Cons1. Hardware: The hardware is not adequate for running Vista. Hard drive is slower than most of other netbooks and notebooks.
2. Keyboard: The tactical response is really soft. The position of right shift, question, comma, and period is really tightly placed. It took several days to get used to it.
Additional ThoughtsMine came with Vista and was unbearably slow. So I tried Windows 7 beta. It was usable. However, while I was using it for a week, it gave me frustration when loading web pages. (You need external DVD drive to install Windows.)
I then tried Ubuntu Netbook Remix (it is free). It was faster than Windows 7. I used it for about a month. Everything worked all right.... but I was not fully satisfied with the speed of loading web pages and windows, so I switched the desktop manager from heavy-weight Gnome to light-weight Xfce.
Now any windows display instantly and web pages load quickly. After I immobilized panels and created shortcuts on the panel I have no complaints.
With a little bit of tweaks, you can get light and fast laptop for really good price. Highly recommended!
